In what nine things did God’s retraining consist for His people?
In Deuteronomy 10:12-22, Moses charged the Israelites with nine things: to fear Jehovah their God; to walk in all His ways; to love and serve Him with all their heart and soul; to keep His commandments and statutes, that it might be well with them; to circumcise their heart; to be no more stiffnecked; to cleave to Him; to swear by His name; and that He was their praise and their God.
Spiritual Burden
To possess Christ as our good land fully, we must take heed lest there be in us an evil heart of unbelief; we need to exercise our spirit of faith and keep our hearts turned to the Lord continually, believing fully in His promises, His presence with His people, and our ability to overcome.

Revelation of the Truth
God’s calling of the Israelites was for them to enter into the promised land, enjoy its riches, establish God’s kingdom, and be His expression on earth.
If we would possess Christ as our good land fully, the apostle Paul warns us against idolatry, saying, “Flee from idolatry” (1 Cor. 10:14).
God, through Moses, retrained the new generation of Israelites after their long wandering, preparing them to enter and possess the land God had promised; all of the first generation, except for Caleb and Joshua, had passed away, and the second generation was ready to enter and possess the good land.
The Experience of Life
The first generation typifies our old man, and the second generation typifies our new man; we need to be the ones who grow in life, fully possessing and enjoying the all-inclusive Christ (which is the land promised by God); the transformation is that the old man dies, and the new man grows; God’s economy is that our old man (the outward man) be destroyed, and our new man (the inward man) be renewed day by day.
Because of the Lord’s mercy and grace, after we entered the Lord’s recovery, we are undergoing renewal so that we may grow in life, be transformed in life, and be brought into the enjoyment of Christ as our good land, for the building up of God and for the kingdom.
Practice and Application
To have God’s keeping power, we need to exercise our spirit of faith and keep our hearts turned to the Lord continually, believing fully in His promises, His presence with His people, and their ability to overcome.
To possess Christ as our good land fully, we need, by receiving the Lord’s new speaking to us day by day, to maintain our freshness and newness before the Lord (Lam. 3:22-24; Deut. 34:7; Rom. 7:6; Jer. 15:16); we need to be careful not to faint in the land (Deut. 4:25).
