Message Three

A Land of Wheat and Barley

Opening Word of the Prophesying Meeting

Reading the verses in each day.

Reading the main points in the outlines.

Pray-reading the verses:

Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless the grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.—John 12:24.

Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes into Me, even if he should die, shall live.—John 11:25.

I am able to do all things in Him who empowers me.—Phil. 4:13.

Word of Appetizer

In Deuteronomy 8:8, He puts wheat (not barley or grapevines) first. What aspect of Christ does wheat represent? and what aspect of Christ does barley represent?

From John 12:24 we can see that the Lord is the grain of wheat that fell into the earth and died, buried. Wheat stands for the incarnated Christ. Christ is God becoming flesh, becoming a man, coming to the earth to die, to be buried. This is the wheat. It typifies the incarnated Christ, the crucified Christ, the buried Christ.

Wheat typifies the incarnated, crucified, and buried Christ, whereas barley typifies the resurrected Christ; because barley ripens early, it is the firstfruits of the harvest—a type of the resurrected, unrestrained Christ.

Spiritual Burden

In our restricted, oppressed situation, we can experience Christ as the grain of wheat; Christ as the wheat is our life, causing us to be willing to be restricted, to die, to be buried, to become nothing; this is to experience Christ as the wheat.

In order to experience the wheat, the restricted Jesus, we must apply the barley, the unrestricted Christ; in the power of the resurrected Christ, we follow the restricted Jesus; in Him who empowers us, we can do all things, for He is the resurrected and unlimited Christ.

Concluding Word of the Prophesying Meeting

The Revelation of the Truth

The wheat in the first half of Deuteronomy 8:8 typifies the incarnated, crucified, and buried Christ.

Wheat typifies the incarnated, crucified, and buried Christ, whereas barley typifies the resurrected Christ; because barley ripens earlier than other grains in the good land, it is the firstfruits of the harvest.

Life Experience

Whenever the Lord’s sovereign authority places us in a situation that restricts us, that oppresses us, we can experience the Lord as the wheat. If we contact the Lord, we will experience that He is the grain of wheat; in Him we can be content with our lot.

Christ as the wheat is our life, causing us to be willing to be restricted, to die, to be buried, to become nothing; this is to experience Christ as the wheat.

Practice and Application

As the firstfruits, Christ has become the bread of life; hence, the barley cakes typify Christ in resurrection as our food; as we feed on Christ as the barley bread, we become barley cakes, feeding others with the Christ we have experienced.

In order to experience the wheat, the restricted Jesus, we must apply the barley, the unrestricted Christ; in the power of the resurrected Christ, we follow the restricted Jesus. In Him who empowers us, we can do all things, for He is the resurrected and unlimited Christ.

PROPHESYING TOPICS—TWELVE TOPICS PER WEEK

Day 1

T1 Wheat typifies the Christ who was incarnated, the Christ who died, and the Christ who was buried (Deut. 8:8; John 12:24)

(Please illustrate the experiences of wheat.)

T2   An experience of “Christ as wheat” (Deut. 8:8; John 12:24)

(Please illustrate that He is our life, causing us to be willing to be restricted, to die, and to be buried.)

Day 2

T1  Wheat represents the restricted Jesus  (John 1:14; 7:6)

(Please illustrate that the Lord was not only limited in time but also in space during His human life.)

T2  Wheat is Jesus becoming flesh and growing up in our limitations (John 1:14; 12:24)

(Please illustrate with examples that what “limitations” mean. )

Day 3

T1  The way to eat Christ as wheat is through restriction and crucifixion  (John 12:24)

(Please illustrate that restriction always leads to crucifixion.)

T2  The difference between wheat and chaff and tares  (Matt. 3:12)

(Please illustrate that those symbolized by wheat have life within; the Lord Jesus will baptize them in the Holy Spirit and gather them into His barn in heaven by rapture.)

Day 4

T1  Barley is the first of all grains to ripen  (Lev. 2103:10; 1 Cor. 15:20)

(Please illustrate from the above verses that barley represents the resurrected Christ.)

T2  Christ came down as wheat and ascended as barley  (John 6:9-10)

(Please illustrate that wheat and barley represent two aspects of Christ: His coming and His going.)

Day 5

T1  Christ was always limited in the flesh, but Christ is unlimited in resurrection  (Heb. 13:12-13)

(Please illustrate that only when this infinite Christ lives in us can we follow the restricted Jesus.)

T2  Applying the resurrected Christ as my endurance is to experience Christ as barley  (Heb. 13:12-13)

(Please illustrate that the power that enables us to be restricted is the power of His resurrection.)

Day 6

T1 Applying the resurrected Christ as barley bread to supply people  (John 11:25; Phil. 4:13)

(Please illustrate through experience that we must seize every situation as an opportunity to apply Christ.)

T2   Christ is the barley in us  (Matt. 14:16; John 6:9)

(Please illustrate through experience that when we come to the meeting, we must apply Him as barley bread through prayer or testimony to feed everyone.)
