Message Four

The Offering of Isaac and Experiencing God as the One Who Gives Life to the Dead

THE EXTRACT OF THE OUTLINES

Scripture Reading:

Heb. 11:17 By faith Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac; indeed he who gladly received the promises was offering up his only begotten,

I. God tested Abraham, instructing him to take his only begotten son, Isaac, and offer him as a burnt offering—Gen. 22:1-2: (Monday,Tuesday)

A. The source of Isaac’s living made him a burnt offering, which is a person offered to God for His satisfaction; the burnt offering typifies Christ not mainly in redeeming man from sin but in living a life that is completely and absolutely for God and that satisfies God—Gen. 22:2, 7-9; John 5:19, 30.

B. Like Abraham, we need to learn a lesson to offer back to God what God has given to us; God’s highest demand is that we hand back to Him what He has given to us—Gen. 22:1-18; Rom. 11:36; Heb. 11:17.

II. In Gen. 22:1-18, we see Abraham’s believing and obeying; the faith that was infused into him brought him to Mount Moriah and enabled him to offer Isaac as a burnt offering—Gen. 22:1-2; Heb. 11:17-19; 2 Chron. 3:1. (Wednesday)

III. Abraham called the name of the place where he offered Isaac, Jehovah-jireh; verse 14b can be translated as, “In the mount of Jehovah it will be provided,” and there on Mount Moriah, Abraham experienced God’s provision and received a clear vision—Gen. 22:14.

IV. After Isaac was offered up, he was returned in resurrection to fulfill God’s purpose—Gen. 22:16-18; Heb. 11:17-19; Rom. 4:17: (Thursday)

A. By receiving Isaac back, Abraham believed and experienced God as the God who raises the dead—the God of resurrection—Heb. 11:17-19; Rom. 4:17; 2 Cor. 1:9.

B. If we offer to God what we have received from Him, and it passes through death and is returned to us by God in resurrection, it will become a blessing to fulfill God’s purpose—Gen. 22:16-18.

V. By being offered to God by Abraham, Isaac was multiplied to become the New Jerusalem; the way to multiply God’s gift is to offer back to God what He has given us, and one Isaac offered to God and returned in resurrection becomes the innumerable stars and sand—Gen. 22:12, 14, 16-18; Rom. 8:29; Rev. 21:2, 7. (Friday)

VI. Mount Moriah was the place chosen by God, which eventually became Mount Zion, the site for the building of the temple and the center of the good land—Gen. 22:2, 14; 2 Chron. 3:1; Heb. 11:17-19, 12:22-23; Rev. 14:1-5: (Saturday)

A. Abraham was the first person to worship God on Mount Zion with a burnt offering—Gen. 22:14.

B. Today, Abraham’s spiritual descendants, the believers of the New Testament, are on Mount Zion—Heb. 12:22-23.

C. The Lord’s recovery is to build Zion; Zion is the reality of the Body of Christ, with the ultimate consummation being the New Jerusalem—Rev. 14:1; Eph. 4:16; Rev. 21:2.
