The Prayer That Is Critical to the Kingdom Life

I. The King-Savior was a man of prayer, and He taught the disciples to pray that the church, the Father’s house, might become a house of prayer—Luke 3:21-22; 5:16; 6:12; 19:46: (Monday)
A. As a man of prayer, the Lord Jesus was always one with God, living continually in the presence of God—John 10:30; 8:29.
B. As a man of prayer, the Lord Jesus trusted in God under any hardship and persecution; Satan had nothing in the Lord Jesus as a man—1 Pet. 2:23b; John 14:30b.

II. The prayer that the Lord modeled for the disciples in Matthew 6 is a prayer that expresses God’s will—Matt. 6:9-13: (Tuesday)
A. Matthew 6:9-13 is the Lord’s teaching to us to “pray in this way” to “our Father who is in the heavens” (v. 9a); this model prayer can be divided into three parts:
1. Three basic petitions concerning God, related to the Divine Trinity: “Hallowed be Your name” is mainly related to the Father; “Your kingdom come” is mainly related to the Son; and “Your will be done on earth” is mainly related to the Spirit—vv. 9b-10a.

2. Three requests concerning our needs are prayers for protection: “Give us today our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors; and do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one”—vv. 11-13a. (Wednesday)

B. Such a critical prayer causes us to seek more the kingdom of the heavens, which is the Father’s desire, and supplies us with the needed divine supply out of grace. (Thursday)
III. If we pray according to the Lord’s teaching in Luke 11:1-13, the result will be that we pray ourselves into God—Luke 11:1-13:

A. When we pray ourselves into God, we receive His riches into our being as our supply—vv. 5-13. (Friday)
B. To pray means that we see that we are nothing and can do nothing; prayer is actually a declaration: No longer I, but Christ—Gal. 2:20.

Word of Appetizer
The King-Savior was a man of prayer; He was a man in the flesh, praying to the mysterious God in the divine and mysterious realm. What are the characteristics of such a prayer?
As a man of prayer, the Lord Jesus was always one with God; the Lord Jesus lived continually in the presence of God; He was never alone, for the Father was always with Him; He saw the Father’s face at every moment; under any hardship and persecution, the Lord Jesus trusted in God, not in Himself; as a man of prayer, Satan, the ruler of this world, had nothing in the Lord Jesus as a man (no ground, no chance, no hope, no possibility for anything).
Spiritual Burden
The prayer that the Lord demonstrated to the disciples in Matthew 6 is a prayer that expresses God’s will: three basic prayers concerning God, which are related to the Divine Trinity; three requests concerning our needs, which are prayers for protection; this prayer to the Father concludes with three respectful praises as a prayer of extolling.
If we want God to hear our prayers, we must pray toward God’s interests, which are signified by the holy land, the holy city, and the holy temple.

The Revelation of the Truth
The King-Savior was a man of prayer; He taught the disciples to pray so that the church, the Father’s house, would become a house of prayer; when the disciples saw the Lord praying, they asked Him to teach them to pray.
The prayer that the Lord demonstrated to the disciples in Matthew 6 is a prayer that expresses God’s will.
The Experience of Life
If we pray according to the Lord’s teaching in Luke 11:1-13, the result will be that we pray ourselves into God; when we pray ourselves into God, we receive His riches (represented by the bread, the fish, and the egg) into our being as our supply.
When we pray ourselves into God and receive His rich supply, which is the bountiful supply of the all-inclusive Spirit as the reality of the unsearchable riches of Christ, we will be filled and occupied with this supply so that there is no empty space within us for demons, evil spirits, or darkness.
Practice and Application
Because we are easily distracted from God, we should spend time with Him every morning to pray ourselves into Him.
Even a short prayer of calling on the Lord’s name—“O Lord Jesus!”—indicates, “It is no longer I, but Christ.”
If we want God to hear our prayers, we must pray toward God’s interests, which are signified by the holy land, the holy city, and the holy temple; regardless of whom we pray for, our prayer should be aimed at God’s interests, that is, at Christ and the church—God’s interests on the earth for the accomplishment of His economy.
