Message Five

A Land of Vines

Opening Word of the Prophesying Meeting

Reading the verses in each day.

Reading the main points in the outlines.

Pray-reading the verses:

But the vine said to them, Shall I leave my new wine, which cheers God and men…?. Judg. 9:13.

But even if I am being poured out as a drink offering upon the sacrifice and service of your faith, I rejoice, and I rejoice together with you all.—Phil. 2:17.

And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He had spoken with him, a pillar of stone; and he poured out a drink offering on it and poured oil on it.—Gen. 35:14.

Word of Appetizer

What is the vine a type of? What is a drink offering?

The vine is a type of the sacrificing Christ, the One who sacrificed all of Himself, and out of His sacrifice came forth the new wine that cheers God and men.

A drink offering is a type of Christ being poured out as the true wine before God for His satisfaction; the wine of the drink offering was poured out to God for His satisfaction; it was poured out for God to drink. Christ, the heavenly, spiritual wine, is poured out to God for His enjoyment; He poured Himself out as wine for God’s enjoyment.

Spiritual Burden

If we contact the Christ typified by the vine and experience His life sacrifice, He will empower us to live a sacrificing life, producing wine to cheer others and God.

By experiencing Christ as the wine-producing vine and by being filled with this new wine, we are able to become a drink offering in Him and with Him.

The drink offering typifies not only Christ Himself but also this Christ, with Himself as the heavenly wine, saturating us until He and we become one and are poured out for God’s enjoyment and satisfaction and for the building up of God.

Concluding Word of the Prophesying Meeting

The Revelation of the Truth

The vine is a type of the sacrificing Christ, the One who sacrificed all of Himself, and out of His sacrifice came forth the new wine that cheers God and men.

By experiencing Christ as the wine-producing vine and by being filled with this new wine, we are able to become a drink offering in Him and with Him.

The apostle Paul became a drink offering poured out upon the saints’ offering of faith and service.

The Experience of Life

If we contact the Christ typified by the vine and experience His life sacrifice, He will empower us to live a sacrificing life, producing wine to cheer others and God.

If we experience Christ in His all-inclusive aspect, we shall have an abundance of wine to drink, we shall be “drunk” and “crazy” with Christ, and we shall be filled with joy in the Lord.

Practice and Application

We need to be “drunk” with joy, realizing that the most joyful people are the most unselfish; we need to bring joy to those we contact, and we need to bring enjoyment to God.

The drink offering typifies not only Christ Himself but also this Christ, with Himself as the heavenly wine, saturating us until He and we become one and are poured out for God’s enjoyment and satisfaction and for the building up of God.

By enjoying Christ, we experience Christ, gain Christ, and possess Christ, and our whole being is constituted with Christ; thus, our faith becomes an offering to God that the drink offering can be poured upon.

PROPHESYING TOPICS—TWELVE TOPICS PER WEEK

Day 1

T1  The vine represents Christ who sacrificed everything (Deut. 8:8; Judg. 9:13)

(Please illustrate that the vine symbolizes Christ who sacrificed Himself to produce new wine, bringing joy to God and man.)

T2  Experiencing Christ as a wine producer  (Judg. 9:13; Psa. 104:14-15)

(Please illustrate that through experience, we can see the many different aspects of Christ that can meet every need in every situation.)

Day 2

T1 Only the life of Christ is a life of sacrifice  (Rom. 12:1; Eph. 5:2)

(Please illustrate that for grapes to become wine, they must be pressed; to bring joy to God and man, we must also be pressed.)

T2  Christ and His believers are one tree  (John 15:1)

(Please illustrate that the vine in John 15 is the universal vine, encompassing Christ and His believers as the branches.)

Day 3

T1  We are the branches of the vine and need to abide in the vine (the Christ of God (John 15:4-5)

(Please illustrate that only when the branches abide in the vine does the vine become everything to the branches.)

T2  When the vine bears fruit in clusters, the richness of the divine life is revealed (John 15:4-5)

(Please illustrate that the branches on the vine are for the purpose of bearing fruit, to manifest the richness of the Father’s life in the divine impartation.)

Day 4

T1  The drink offering was not for the priests, but entirely for God (Ex 29:40-41 (Exo. 29:40-41)

(What is a “drink offering”?)

T2  The drink offering typifies the enjoyment of Christ by the one who offers the sacrifice  (Phil. 2:17; 2 Tim. 4:6)

(Please illustrate that the apostle Paul, by enjoying Christ in this way, became such a drink offering.)

Day 5

T1  Jacob set up a pillar twice in Bethel (Gen. 28:18; 35:14)

(Please illustrate that why Jacob did not pour a drink offering on the pillar the first time, but only poured oil on it.)

T2   The drink offering is Christ saturating us until we become one with Christ (Matt. 9:17)

(Please illustrate that if we experience Christ daily, eventually the Christ we experience will become wine within us.)

Day 6

T1  The main purpose of the drink offering is for the building of God, not for the worship of God  (Gen. 35:14)

(Please illustrate that on the surface, the drink offering seems to be for worship, but in reality, it is for the house of God, for the building of the pillars.)

T2   This heavenly wine of Christ constituted Paul inwardly  (Phil. 2:17; 2 Tim. 4:6)

(Please illustrate that the apostle Paul considered himself a drink offering, poured out on the sacrifice and offering of the faith of the believers.)
